Second World War higher formation badge for the United States Strategic Air Forces in Europe (USSTAF). The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved by a US War Department radiogram dated 21 December 1944 and formal approval by the Quartermaster General was granted on 27 December 1944. The Command was formed on 1 January 1944 at Bushey Park, England under Lieutenant-General Carl Spaatz. It was administratively responsible for all US Army Air Forces in the UK and later for operational control of the 8th and 15th Air Forces. © IWM (INS 7307)
