Colonel F.W. Castle, Commanding Officer of the 94th Bomb Group awards honours to Major Kenneth S. Steele and Captain William G. Broach, Jr. Printed caption on reverse of print: 'A Ceremony at U.S. Bomber Station: Extraordinary achievement as leader of a B-17 group on a bombing mission over Germany, 25 July 1943, gained for Major Kenneth S. Steele, 739 Mendecino Av, Santa Rosa, California, a cluster to his D.F.C. When it was found impossible to bomb the primary target because of cloud cover, Steele led his group successfully on another prime target. He was awarded a second cluster for; Extraordinary achievement when he piloted a B-17 over Germany, 17 August 1943, for the deepest penetration of enemy territory that ended in another theatre. For courage, skill and determination, a D.F.C. was awarded to Capt. William G. Broach, Jr., for extraordinary achievement as he piloted a B-17 over Occupied Europe on the 4 October 1943. His ship was damaged, and went out of control momentarily but he returned to normal flight and to his position in the formation and led the flight on the target. Unable to keep up with the formation on the return because of damage, and subject to constant enemy attacks, he lost altitude and eluded attacking fighters to make a safe landing in England.
