MACR 0656:- T/O Alconbury, assigned target Gelsenkirchen M/Y but weather forced a change of target to Bochum, Germany. A/c
damaged by fighters over Monchen-Gladbach, Germany. Pilot crash-landed at 1030hrs about one mile north of Philippine, about four and
one half miles west of Terneuzen, Holland. T/Sgt Edwards was killed by 20mm shells in the a/c. The bombardier, S/Sgt Mayo, baled out
too low and was killed. 2 KIA 8 POW.
