Nose art of B-24D Liberator, 42-40751, Touch of Texas, was in the 8th Air force, the 389th Bomb Group, in the 8th Air force, in The U.K. It was (TDY) to the 9th Air Force at Benghazi, Libya, for the Ploesti oil refinery bombing mission, and was piloted by Lt. William J. Denton, returning safely to Libya. RTD. 1 Aug 43. The B-24D, Touch Of Texas, was flown by my Great Uncle, 1st. Lt. Eldon Neil Colby, on his first mission as a pilot, after being the copilot on his original aircraft, The Oklahoman, 42-40738. He was flying alongside, The Oklahoman, in, Touch of Texas when, The Oklahoman, was hit by a direct burst of flak, carrying the Mason Crew, who normally flew in, Fightin' Sam, 42-40506. The Oklahoman, was blown apart, with Lt. Mason being the sole survivor - bailed out. POW. 5 Dec 43 - Contributor - Roy Potter
