A bomber crew of the 305th Bomb Group visit their injured colleague Captain W D Whitson. Passed for publication 2 Jun 1943. Printed caption on reverse is damaged: '...of a Fortress Crew gathered round the bedside of Captain W.D. Whitson, their pilot who is recoving from wounds received after a raid on Helgoland on May 15th. The nose of the machine was blown off by enemy fire, both pilots wounded, the navigator was killed, several members of the crew were wounded ...they shot down between them 8 enemy machines and Lt Robert W. ...the bombadier[sic] flew the machine home and in the meantime Capt. Whitson the chief pilot was able to recouver[sic] enough to land the machine which is called "Old Bill". O.P.S. ...bomadier[sic] on the right shaking hands with Capt. Whitson while other members of the crew gather round the bedside. [2/6/43].' Censor no: 267444.
