Colonel Hubert Zemke, commanding officer of the 56th Fighter Group with a P-47 Thunderbolt (serial number 44-21175) commemorating his service, on display at the Eiffel Tower, 1945. Zemke has handwritten on the reverse: 'Zemke & a P-47M on display at the Eiffel Tour- paris, France June 1945. I never flew this model P-47. Just after the liberation from Prison camp and while visiting Gen Spaatz HQ outside Paris was take to see this kite. The number of Nazi crosses on the side of the P-47 were my then total of air and ground claims, including the 479th Fighter Group. I never had a plane painted like that.'
