IMAGE“Shopworn Angel”. serial 42-95917, code Y5-J. Belly landed in at Stansted returning from its 12th mission on 21st April 1944, the target a V-1 Launch site at Bonnieres, France by Captain Lucious Clay. The landing gear was damaged by flak. The aircraft was repaired and returned to duty. Later, Hit by flak over the target and crashed on Valentines Day 1945 ( 14th February 1945 ) on the mission to the Neuweid RR bridge at Engers, Germany. The pilot that day was Capt. Thomas Gough Brennan, Jnr.

Your original caption was incorrect in that Captain Clay was piloting the Y5-J when it was belly landed. The usual Captain, Hank Woodrum and crew did not fly that day. They were shot down in another plane while Y5-J was being repaired.
