IMAGEAirmen of the 386th Bomb Group watch a formation of B-26 Marauders return from a mission. Passed as censored 30 Sep 1943. Printed caption on reverse: 'AMERICA'S "RED DEVIL" [a censor has omitted 'Red Devil']FLYERS. USP/2247-29. Back at home base each man is restless, anxiously awaits the formations return and as the time draws near may find himself in a group listening intently for the first distant thunder of their approach. As they finally come into view he will quickly count the number of planes, if he only counts thirty-five he may well feverishly count again because thirty-six went out. If there are only thirty-five he tries to tell himself that perhaps the other one may have been in difficulty and landed safely at another field in England, but he knows that more than likely he was seen by his comrades to drop out fo the formation over the target area and go down like a smoking comet with a couple of "Jerries" on his tail. And he wonders who it was the "dirty bastards" got.' Censor no: 285981. On reverse: Keystone Press Agency, Ministry of Information, US Army Press Censor ETO and US Army General Section Press & Censorship Bureau [Stamps].
