A railway line near Hasselt, Brussels, bombed by B-26 Maruaders of the 9th Air Force, 10 April 1944. Passed for publication 13 Apr 1944. Handwritten caption on reverse: '9th Air Force, Hasselt, 40 miles east of Brussels. 10 Apr 1944.' Printed caption on reverse: 'PRO-HQ-44-499B United States Army Air Forces Official Photo Distributed Through OWI. A U.S. Ninth Air Force Bomber Station, England: No Easter parade of Nazi war supplies through this railroad junction! The first formation of Ninth Air Force B-26 Marauder medium bombers attacking the important Hasselt railway marshalling yards in Nazi-occupied Belgium the day before Easter put its bomb concentration squarely on the target. The white smoke shooting skyward is an ammunition train, which left a crater 150 feet long and 40 feet wide. Other Marauder formations following up dropped their loads into the carriage and wagon repair shops and the small white-roofed storage sheds (lower left). All main "through" tracks were cut in many places, one of them by 17 craters from 1,000 pound bombs[obscured]. (See also PRO-HQ-44-499 and 499A).' Censor no: 47461. On reverse: US Army Press Censor ETO and US Army General Section Press & Censorship Bureau [Stamps].
