Successfully returned badly shot up plane A/C #42-7082 on June 25, 1944. June 27, 1944, With 2 engines out and airframe cracking on the 'Mission Mistress' excess equipment had been jettisoned by the crew to attempt to land in one of the newly built emergency strips in France. Pilot Raymond Graves first attempted to land at a US fighter strip in Normandy but on approach was alerted to enemy artillery fire at the airstrip. He spotted a Canadian airfield and successfully landed there. The crew was shuttled to Caen and transported by LST and surface transport to Rougham.
