Capt. Conroy from the 566th Bomb Squadron, and the 389th Bomb Group, was the pilot of the B-24D - #42-40738 - "The Oklahoman" on the low level mission to bomb the oil refineries at Ploesti, Romania. He was forced to divert to Malta due to low fuel and damage. August 1, 1943
