Sydney Thomas

He was inducted in February 1943, trained in meteorology and graduated in June 1944 receiving a direct commission as 2nd Lieutenant. Deployed to the ETO in March 1945 he served as Weather Officer with the group, often flying on weather missions over the Atlantic to the Azores. Some weather observations were taken every 50 miles, others at 100 or 500 miles, the results encoded and transmitted back to base. Forecasters were also able to make use of the Enigma data transmitted from German submarines. Post VE Day Sydney was based at Bad Kissengen, returning to the States in June 1946. He afterwards gained his law degree and was partner in a law firm.
