Oct 2, 1943 'Miss Murial' had retracted gear at takeoff. Crew returned to action. 386th BG was part of the 8thAF from July-October 1943. A month later the Group was transferred to the 9th AF operating from Great Dunmow. Russell flew two full tours before becoming a gunnery instructor until his discharge. He afterwards attended college under the GI Bill, then worked for the John Deere Co.
