Ross was originally drafted into the infantry, then having volunteered for the Aviation Cadet program trained as a navigator and was commissioned in November 1944. Post VE Day the Group was moved to Belgium specifically to conduct aerial photography of Europe and N.Africa and then to Germany. He was discharged in June 1946 went back to college and qualified as a CPA.
