Hampton, VA | 3 January 2006 | HAMPTON — Robert J. Guillotte, 83, a longtime Hampton resident, passed away Jan. 3, 2006. Originally from Massachusetts, he married Virginia Lee Maxson in Richmond, Va., in 1943 before leaving to serve in World War II. Bob was stationed in Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack in 1941. He trained as a P-47 fighter pilot and flew in Europe as part of the 365th Fighter Group. He was shot down on May 7, 1944, and spent the remaining wartime in a German POW camp. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross. Bob followed his military service with a 25-year career at NACA (now NASA) as an engineer in the area of dynamics analysis. He opened his own workshop called Ship 'n' Shore after retirement and produced many beautiful woodworks for boats, homes and offices. Everyone who knew him loved his zest for life and he made the most of every day. If he wasn't flying or boating in Foolish Pleasure or Foxy Lady, he was bowling, working with his computer, building grandfather clocks for all the family, visiting friends and family all over the country or on a golf course somewhere. |
