He was serving as copilot of B-26 tail #41-31671 when it went down over the North Sea on return from a mission to Venlo, Holland, on February 25, 1944. His unit was the 387th Bomb Group (M), 558th Bomb Squadron.
The remains of LT Evans and his crewmates were never recovered.
