With two engines out due to flak and mechanical problems on a mission to Achmer airfield, GR on 21 Feb 1944, B-17F #42-30866 'Pistol Packin' Mama' was attacked by fighters after falling out of formation and was forced to ditch in the North Sea. RTD. B-17 #42-97066 hit by flak and crashed near Abbeville 14 Jun 1944. Prisoner of War (POW).
