Mooresville, NC, USA | 25 January 2012 | Richard was a resident of Mooresville, North Carolina at the time of his passing. He entered the Aviation Cadet Program of the US Army Air Corps and graduated from Pilot Training in May 1944. During WWII, he was assigned to the 466th Bomb Group ' 8th AF in England flying 25 missions in B-24 bombers to targets over Germany such as Berlin, Magdeburg, Regensburg, Essen and Munster. After WWII, he was assigned to the Pacific at Hickam AFB in Hawaii. During the Korean War, he flew air evacuation bringing the wounded home. He logged over 9,000 hours flying time during his 24 year Air Force career. He was preceded in death by his wife Camilla. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery with his wife Camilla. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Monday, January 30, 2012, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, Mooresville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. |
