MilitaryShot down 4 January 1944 in B-24 42-7637 'Queen of Peace'.
On mission to Germany 4 Jan 1944 his aircraft encountered enemy fighters. After losing considerable altitude he recommended the pilot head to Sweden. Without maps or navigational equipment he efficiently improvised and over 10-tenths cloud did superior dead-reckoning navigator. Through his efforts his aircraft and crew reached neutral territory. '
