This is my first post, this is my uncle, SSgt Matthew W Walter, Waist Gunner and assistant flight engineer who flew combat missions with the 447th Bomb Group,710th Bomb squadron from 3 June 44 to Sept 44. He flew on 10 different B-17G's, but was a regular on Stormy Weather II #42-31902 for 8 missions and Red Hot Mama #43-37821 for 13 missions. He flew 3 missions as a togglier, EM bombardier, once as ball turret gunner and once as tail gunner. He was a member of the crew of Lt. James Shute. After his combat time he became a gunnery instructor training new gunners on the B-29 remote gunnery system.
