Lost two engines on mission to Oschersleben in B-17G #42-37940 'Spirit of '44' and returned to England and made an emergency landing at Shipdham. RTD. Shot down by fighters and crashed near Warendorf, GR on another mission to Oscherslaben on 22 Feb 1944 in B-17G #42-39898 'Boston Bombshell'. Prisoner of War (POW)
