Military22 October 1942 P-400 BX418 on ferry flight to Burtonwood from Ayr plane developed fuel problems. Weather conditions and oil on windshield made landing difficult. On 4th attempt, overshot runway and a truck drove on the runway. In the collision, both truck driver and Usher were injured. Usher was returned to action. Group later assigned to 12th AAF
