The cause of the crash has not been established but reports state that he appeared to go into a spin during aerobatics, recovered, then went into a power dive from which he did not recover. Crash site: Wick Farm, Layer Marney, Essex. Initially buried at the Cambridge American Cemetery at Madingley but repatriated and interred at Margaret Cemetery, Valley County, Idaho.
