Chaplain Walker served as president of the Rotary Club in Ensley, AL. He retired from the Baptist Hospitals in 1977. After retirement, he enjoyed playing and spending time with his grandchildren, Laura Long Goolsby (1978) and William Allen Long (1979). He has three great grand children, the two youngest both named after him- Hunter Matthew Goolsby (1999), Cohen Jared Long (2011), and Caleb Walker Pettit (2012).

Birmingham, AL, USA In January of 1960, Chaplain Jared Walker returned to Birmingham, Alabama and served as hospital chaplain for the Baptist Princeton and Baptist Montclair hospitals, along with with his father-in-law The Reverend John Hall Buchanan Sr. He moved to Vestavia Hills, AL in 1960 with his wife, Lynn Buchanan Walker and daughter Patricia Walker (Long). In 1990, Chaplain Walker and Mrs Walker moved to a retirement community in Riverchase, AL.
