Killed not battle
A statement from the 601st reads as follows 'Lt Brown (pilot) had a bad accident on board when his top turret man, Sgt J.E. Chandler got a serious flak burst in the left side"

A hospital admission card for him states admission September 1944, injury non battle. Discharge date: October 1944. Discharge type: died. It does state that he was struck by a vehicle.
He got married on March 11th 1944.
