Military

One of four crewmen who bailed out over Cologne, Germany on 15 October 1944 and had his 21st Birthday two days later in Obursel near Frankfurt. The B-17, 42-107040 returned to base.

'I was one of the airmen who flew missions (18/12). My missions were cut short 15 Oct '44 over Cologne, Germany. I was still living two days later and had my 21st Birthday in Obursel, near Frankfort, Gee. I was a member of the 324th Bomb Sq, 91 BG, Bassingbourn, England just south of Cambridge. I visited Duxford in 1983 and the B-17 crew chief gave me a complete tour of the airplane. I also remember Bing Crosby and tour group at Duxford in summer of 1944.'
