Hubert Francis O'Neill
MilitaryBorn and raised in Lynn, Massachusetts, Hubert O’Neill graduated from Lynn English High School in 1942. Enlisting in the Air Corps in November of that year, he was sent overseas in 1943 and served as a Radio Operator/Gunner in the 92nd Bomb Group / 407th Bomb Squadron. Shot down on his second mission, over Osnabrück, Germany, 22 December 1943 on board B-17 #42-3184. Prisoner of War (POW). After his return to the United States in the summer of 1945, he started working for the federal government as an engineer technician. He worked at the Watertown Arsenal in Watertown, Massachusetts and the Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey until retiring in 1980, when he and his wife Mary Elizabeth moved to Yarmouth, Massachusetts from Sparta, New Jersey.
