Military ROLL OF HONOURRadio operator, Evans, Crew. 381st BG, 535th BS. Shot down 12 August 1943 in B-17 #42-29950 'Forget Me Not'. Mission #17 to the synthetic oil works at Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Alternate target hit at the steel works of Vereinigte Stahlworks at Boxhum. #2 and #4 engines knocked out/on fire by fighters. S/Sgt Kern was hit in the head and body by 20mm fire while attempting to bail out of the waist escape hatch. Killed in Action (KIA). Body not found. Name is on the Tablets of the Missing at the Netherlands AMC.
