Harry Waldo Dingle
MilitaryBorn in Colorado, Harry Dingle is listed in the 1940 US Census as a sailor in the Merchant Marine. He enlisted in the US Army in July 1941. After training in the United States, he was sent overseas and assigned as a Pilot in the 490th Bomb Group / 849th Bomb Squadron in Eye, Suffolk, England. Honorably discharged from the USAAF on 5 October 1946, he stayed in the US Air Force Reserve and re-enlisted in the USAF on 4 January 1949. He served in Korea as a Captain, member of the 729th Bomber Squadron, 452nd Bomber Wing, attached to the 8th Republic of Korea Division as an air controller. He was taken Prisoner of War while engaged with the enemy near Wonju, South Korea on 12 February 1951. He died from malnutrition and dysentery while a Prisoner of War of the Chinese Army at the POW camp of Pyoktong, North Korea on 31 May 1951.
