Baled out of 41-24609 'Holy Mackerel' while on a mission to bomb the U-Boat pens at St. Nazaire, France on 23-Nov-42. This aircraft was the lead aircraft for the 303BG formation and he was the Lead Navigator. The aircraft was damaged by flak and he baled out thinking that pilots had been killed and was captured.
