George F Hoffman
Military"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 22 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
He enlisted aged 17 but was not called for duty until aged 18. He trained as a gunner in Las Vegas and Plant Park FL before shipping out to join the Group at Molesworth. He flew on 35 combat missions - his most memorable that to Hamburg when they lost two engines and crossed the English Channel at water level. He was very aware of the 'hand of fate', when his bunk mates were lost on their 34th mission. Post war he first attended Simpson College under the GI Bill, then studied law and practised in the family law firm which had been going since the late 19th century.
