Robb 85, Christian, loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and war hero went home to be with the Lord on December 29, 2008. George leaves behind a wife of 21 years, Muriel; sons George, John, step-son Jim Thomas, Steve, and Joe; sisters Elizabeth Evans, Joanne Posa and Patricia Broeker; eleven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. George's brothers Howard and Jack preceded him in death. George was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters. George flew a total of 31 missions in a B-24, 28 missions in the 492nd bomb group and 3 missions in the 467th bomb group. After the war, George retired as a conductor on the San Francisco (Frisco) railroad. George was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church and a Mason. George will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be on Friday, January 2 at 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral at 2:00 at Memphis Funeral Home (5599 Poplar Avenue). The burial service will be at the West Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery (4000 Forest Hill Irene Road) on Tuesday, January 6 at 11:00 a.m. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar (901)725-0100 (Published in The Commercial Appeal on 1/1/2009) |
