On February 23, 1945, he was serving as a Gunner aboard “Heavenly Hideaway,” B-24 tail #42-50449, of the 458th Bomb Group, 753rd Bomb Squadron, when it was involved in a mid-air collision over Skeyton, England.
He is buried at East Hickory Hill Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois.
