Edward Arthur Kelley

Edward Arthur Kelley was the son of Charles and Susan Kelley, and the brother of Thomas Kelley. He was born 16 Jul 1916 in St. Louis, Missouri. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on 2 Nov 1942. He was assigned to the 320th Bombardment Group and was killed in action over Rovereto, Italy, on 5 Nov 1944, during a railroad fill mission. "...Battle No. 26 was hit by enemy aircraft attack on the breakaway from the target. It dropped out of formation. Wheels were seen to go down. It nosed up sharply and then spun to the ground, crashing at A-6909 at 11:34 hours. No fire, no explosion, or chutes were seen" (Mission 396, 320th BG Website).
Edward's body was recovered and identified in 1949, and sent home to St. Louis, where he was buried on 7 Mar 1949 in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
