Marshalltown, IA 50158, USA 4 February 2008 Alfred "Al" Kibler Nelson was born on Tuesday; June 21, 1921 in Evanston; Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of Alfred, Sr. and Mary (Lesher) Nelson. He received his education in the Fairfield, Iowa area and went on to college at Iowa State University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Al married Wilma J. Preston on Wednesday; March 15, 1944 in Ames; Story County, Iowa. Al served our country proudly in the Air Force during World War II. He flew with the 466th Bomb Group in the German Theatre. During their married life, the couple lived in Iowa, Illinois, Washington, and moved to Marshalltown (Embers) in 1990. They had two children, Marilyn Jean and Donald Lee. Al started his career at Caterpillar in the Peoria area in 1947. He worked as an engineer there for 37 years, retiring in 1984. Al was a member of the Pit Tau Sigma honorary fraternity for mechanical engineers. Al enjoyed traveling with his5th-wheel trailer, wintering in Texas with Wilma, fishing in Minnesota and Canada, and HAM Radio. Alfred "Al" Kibler Nelson, age 86, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away on Monday; February 4, 2008 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.
