Son of Carl & Louise (Hertig) Roelle.
He attended school in Columbus, graduating from Kramer High in 1931. On September 2, 1941 he entered the service and served in the Army Air Force. He was honorably discharged on October 7, 1945.
During this time he earned the following decorations and citations: Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, Silver and Bronze Battle Star, Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Dist. Unit Badge and four Overseas Service Bars. He saw battles in Southern France, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Upon returning from the service he worked in the family heating and air conditioning business. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and going for long drives in his pickup truck.
