Abraham J Seidman

Military

My father Abraham Seidman passed away a year ago at age 99 on November 8, 2019. He was a first generation American as his mother was from Poland and his father from Ukraine.

He married at age 37,

6 children.

Owned and ran a couple of 5 and dime stores in Plainfield CT which he ran until his 80's.

Moved to live in Chicago with daughter's family with his wife.

Spoke often about WWII experiences.

Such as crossing the U boat infested Atlantic ocean along with 16,000 troops on the Queen Elizabeth Ship.

About the time he was face to face with King George the father of Queen Elizabeth now, when the Royal Family came to their base and the King happened to walk into his barracks in Thurleigh to see how the American soldiers were living .

My Dad happened to be the only one there as most people were out to see all the hoopla surrounding the visit of the royal family but my Dad had been working on the bombers overnight for night raids and I guess he was tired.

My father was a very humble, intelligent, quiet man who worked hard and was very content to sit and relax reading any kid of history but particularly of his war.
