Abel Joseph Fernandes

Abel Fernandes, known as Hap enlisted in the US Army in 1941, and joined the 82nd Airborne Division. He made three combat jumps during the Second World War in North Africa, Sicily and Normandy on 6 June 1944. Fernandes remained in the US Army after to the Second World War, serving in Korea, and supporting the Berlin Crisis in 1961. He earned a field commission during the conflict Vietnam, and rose to the rank of Major by his retirement in 1971. After leaving the armed forces he worked for the El Paso Sheriff's Department.
