B-24 42-51561 'Lucky 1' 752BS, 458BG on its nose in a blegium field having been damaged by flak over Dortmund.
Assigned to 752BS, 458BG, 8AF USAAF. Flew only five combat missions from 13 Jan thru 28-Jan-45. Hit by flak on Dortmund mission, over the target flak burst directly beneath the nose of their B-24 damaging electrical, hydraulic, and auto pilot systems and shattering Plexiglas in the nose. 1Lt. Louis D. Vehslage (Pilot), wounded in the neck by shrapnel, elected to crash-land the damaged aircraft near the Belgian/French border 28-Jan-45, following which it was salvaged.
