P-47C-5-RE 41-6399 [WZ:M] was assigned to the 78FG/84FS at Duxford. On 13-Apr-43 the aircraft, piloted by LTC Joseph L. Dickman, Deputy Group Commanding Officer, was despatched on a Ramrod mission to support the RAF. The aircraft sustained an engine failure two miles off the English coast and LTC Dickman ahd to ditch into the English Channel. He dislocated his right arm when he baled out, but was rescued by the Air-Sea Rescue (ASR) Service. He eventually returned to the United States in July 1943. 1RTD. No MACR issued.
