42-8406 Eager Eve
P-47D-5-RE 42-8406 [QS:T] "Eager Eve", was assigned to 355FG/357FS at Steeple Morden, UK. On 5-Nov-43 the aircraft, piloted by 1LT Clark Collins, was despatched with his fighter group to provide escort for B-17s attacking at Gelsenkirchen, Germany. On the withdrawl of those his flight engaged German fighters over Holland and he and his aircraft were shot down and crashed into the North Sea just off Westenschouwen, Holland. His remains have never been recovered. 1KIA MACR 1169.
