Just before midnight on 13 February 1944, B-24 (serial number 41-29354) departed Fortaleza, Brazil for Dakar, Senegal, as part of a ferrying mission from the US to the UK. At around 11:30 the next day, radio centres in North Africa were informed that the ship was being ditched.
Despite search efforts from 24 aircraft, and the assistance of surface vessels no evidence was found of the wreckage of the aircraft. All 10 men aboard the aircraft were declared Missing in Action
