42-67053 Vivacious Vera
P-38-H-5-LO 42-67953 "Vivacious Vera", 55FG/343FS was assigned at Nuthampstead, UK. On 13-Dec-43 the aircraft, piloted by 1LT Hugh J Goudelock, was despatched with other P-38s to escort bombers attacking at Bremen, Germany. While over enemy territory the aircaft suffered a failure of the left engine. 1LT Goudelock managed to nurse the crippled aircraft back to England and was attempting to land at Ludham Airfiled when the right engine failed. He ended up crashing the aircraft in the street at Ludham Village. The aircraft was destroyed but 1LT Goudelock was not seriously injured and sustained only a concussion and shock. 1RTD No MACR.
