P-47C-2-RE 41-6188 [MX:U] was assigned to 78FG/82FS at Duxford, UK. On 26-Nov-43 the aircraft, piloted by 2LT John Herrick, was despatched with others from 78FG to provide escort to bombers attacking at Bremen, Germany. The aircraft was shot down by German fighters and crashed near Chantilly, France. 2LT Herrick baled out over Beauvais, France and managed to evade capture. He returned to England on 3-Feb-44.
