B-24D-5-CO 41-23820 was assigned to 480th Anti-Submarine Group/1st Anti-Submarine Squadron at St. Eval, UK. The aircraft was on TDY duty with RAF Coastal Command but under administrative control of VIII Air Support Command. The aircraft was despatched on 26-Feb-43 an anti-submarine patrol over the Bay of Biscay. The aircraft was shot down by a German fighter and crashed into the sea about 75 miles north-west of Brest, France. All crew lost. 10KIA, No MACR issued.
