P-47 Thunderbolt
Assigned to 356FS, 354FG, 9AF USAAF. Failed to Return (FTR) mission to Trier area with 2Lt William H Bush; shot down by flak strafing a road convoy, crashed Prum, Germany 25-Dec-44 Killed in Action (KIA) MACR 11424
Capt Francis P Mc Intire witnessed:
"Lt Bush was flying as Red 3 on an armed reconnaissance in the Trier area on 25th December. We spotted a large M/T convoy in the middle of the town of Prum and Lt Bush and I went down to strafe it. There was intense 20mm flak in the area. When I pulled up off the target, I looked for Lt Bush but could not find him. I went back to Prum and saw his ship burning on the top of a hill just south of the town. I believe it was impossible for Lt Bush to have gotten out of the crash."
