44-13707 Lady Dorothy IV

Shot down by enemy Me109 fighter. Last sighted at 20,000ft 8mi NE of Dümmer Lake, about 45km NE of Osnabrück, Germany. Crashed near Grönloh, 12km NE of Bersenbrück, Germany. The caption for #44-13707 on page 63 of the book “’Down to Earth’ Strafing Aces of the Eighth Air Force” by William N. Hess (Osprey Publishing – Bloomsbury Piblishing – 2012) wrongly states that it was “shot down by a Bf 109 near Groenlo in Holland on 26 November 1944 whilst being flown by Lt Jack T Gaston, who was killed.” In fact, Lt Gaston was captured and made a Prisoner of War (POW). Missing Air Crew Report – MACR 10478.
