C-47 42-100676 flew on D-Day in position #18, Serial 30 in Mission ELMIRA, piloted by 2nd Lt. Ernest S. Dix, co-pilot 2nd Lt. Herman Fox, crew chief Paul B. Lefever, and radio operator Paul C. Nordgren.
42-100676 was in flying position #34, Serial A-30 in Mission MARKET; eyewitness saw left engine on fire, then flames all over the ship; the plane started straight down, the wings fell off and he spun straight into the ground.
